Feeding Frontline Medical Workers

On Friday, April 3, 2020, a group of friends organized a fundraiser to supply food for New York Presbyterian Hospital - Weill Cornell Medical Center's ICU team. These hardworking doctors, nurses and support staff are on the frontlines of the coronavirus crisis in New York City, and they're often too tired to cook for themselves after long days and nights performing such selfless public service during this pandemic. In just four hours, we raised around $2,000, and we were able to send catering for 120 meals and some extra treats to the medical personnel serving the COVID-19 patients during the overnight shift.
In addition to providing a hearty, comforting meal for these heroes, we were also able to patronize a local restaurant and give a generous tip to the delivery driver. Our impromptu fundraiser brought good cheer to frontline medical professionals, supported a local restaurant at a time when the food service industry is suffering and put a little extra money in the pocket of delivery drivers.
Inspired by the tremendous generosity of our friends during our first fundraiser, we have decided to expand our efforts to include new hospitals in new communities. We hope you will join us in giving generously to this good cause.
With that in mind, we have chosen a goal of $6,000 to begin. We have selected four hospitals in four communities most burdened by the COVID-19 pandemic. For every extra $1,500 we receive, we will add a new hospital in a new community. So, please give as generously as you can!
We endeavor to send meals out the week before Easter (April 4 to 11), and we select a variety of foods that meet different dietary and faith custom needs. We are working in partnership with local restaurants and catering to give these small businesses a boost!
We are arranging drop-offs with the hospitals now, but we plan for the first four rounds of meals to go to:
New Orleans East Hospital (New Orleans), working in partnership with the United Cajun Navy and Bonnano's Fine Catering.
Rush University Medical Center (Chicago), working in partnership with J&L Catering .
Swedish Hospital (Seattle), working in partnership with General Harvest Restaurants.
Detroit Hospital TBD
Again, the more we raise, the more hospitals and communities we can serve. We'll provide receipts and updates as we go along. Thank you so much for your patriotism and generosity. We're in this together, and we'll get through it together!
