Three years ago I met a wonderful woman, we fell in love and after many years of trying with no success she was able to get pregnant. Three months into her pregnancy she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.
She risked her health and life only taking a limited amount of chemotherapy drugs so it would not harm our child.
We thank God that our daughter was born healthy with no side effects from her mother's treatment.
After 12 years as a Customer Service supervisor in a flag manufacturing company, making enough money to provide for my family I had to make a choice of either maintaining my proffesional standards or taking care of my sick wife and our baby girl. I could not do both in a satisfactory manner for my company and most importantly for my family. I chose to be there for my family.
With help from wonderful, caring friends we have managed to survive. Sleeping in basements, motel and summer homes we managed to find and apartment close to my wife's treatment facilities.
After three years unemployed and the financial help from friends dwindling we find ourselves broke, unable to pay utility bills and rent.
I'm the sole caregiver for my wife and daughter and have managed to get a part time job at our daughter's daycare facility. I would like to take on a full time job but my wife's health leaves her incapacitated to be a fulltime mother for our daugther and the low pay and few hours will only cover some bills.
As a veteran from the United States Marine Corps I am a proud man that believes in taking care of his own responsibilities, now my family is at risk and I'm not ashamed to ask for help.
