Hi Everyone,
My name is Ronnie Beathea, Miss Beathea to most. I am a high school Biology and Environmental Science teacher in Indianapolis; where I recently began an all-girl mentoring group called FLAVA. FLAVA is an acronym for Future Leaders with Ambition, Values, and Aspirations. FLAVA was designed to foster a loving environment of sisterhood for young ladies in low-income neighborhoods; through interactive forums workshops, community service projects, girl outings, and extracurricular activities with the hopes of these things empowering them to become great leaders, outstanding students, and wise decision makers.
FLAVA will strive to renew minds, restore values, and build positive relationships within the classroom and within our community. We pride ourselves with focusing on six small pictures to create our own large picture of success. Those six focal points are: Education, Parental Support, Physical Mental and Spiritual Wellness, Financial Planning, Life (Survival) Skills, and Community Involvement. FLAVA has a calendar full of potential events that falls in line with the ribbon (i.e. Diabetes Awareness) of each month. Each month the ladies will provide community service to a different organization to practice to give to those less fortunate than themselves. They will participate in an empowering forum; from speakers to television shows. FLAVA will also, host and participate in “Real Talk” conversations with their peers to raise awareness about common teenage problems.
In order to be successfully in our endeavors to provide a positive change for our young ladies, we must have financial support to bring forth great programs for them to witness.
We have THREE huge kickoff projects at our fingertips that we would appreciate any financial support:
1. We want to build our brand. Get a LOGO and Slogan created just for FLAVA. Something that describes us and the movement we are trying to begin.
2. Our young ladies took on the courage and stood before our school principal and asked for their very own room in the school building. After much hard work, including a formal interview requested by him, they superseded his expectations and was granted ANY room they wanted in the building. Now we must decorate it.
3. Lastly, our FIRST big event includes a HIV/AIDS awareness Fashion Show Case. We need décor, T-shirts, a Host, and more!
