Endangered Species, Enduring Values An Anthology of San Francisco Area Writers & Artists of Color Edited by Shizue Seigel • Pease Press www.peasepress.com/endangeredspecies or your local bookstore • 272 pp. (90 pp. in color) • ISBN: 978-0-9904173-4-7

Endangered Species, Enduring Values
is a guide to the real San Francisco: the seldom-heard 58% people of color in the nation’s most diverse and progressive city. As in previous eras of the Third World Movement, Black Power, La Raza, and the beats, hippies, punks, counterculture, and LBGT movements, San Francisco leads the way toward a new way of thinking about America—this time as a multicultural society of compassionate inclusive activism that draws from rich, multilayered roots. Includes prose, poetry and artwork by over 70 established and emerging writers and artists including SF Poet Laureate Kim Shuck, Fire Commissioner Francée Covington, artist/curator Rene Yañez,  and physicians, educators, union workers, activists working for immigrant rights, LGBT, mental health, housing and more. Contributors aged 17 to 84 have  roots in Native America, Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and elsewhere.  A limited edition was funded by a San Francisco Arts Commission grant. We are seeking funds to publish more books and get them into San Francisco schools and libraries to inspire students and adults with untold stories about the huge range of possibilties  experiences by people of color.

“Truly stunning! Stories and artworks that bring readers to the
edges  of awareness, endurance and beauty.  I love every voice!!”
                     — Deborah Santana, All the Women in My Family Sing

“Nothing short of amazing. A thoughtful and inclusive curation,
a necessary anthology of voices saying ‘We are San Francisco.
We will not be erased!’”
—Truong Tran, poet, visual artist, educator

Essays, memoir, fiction, visuals and poetry paint an honest, complex and personal picture of San Francisco area artists-of-color. Interdisciplinary, intergenerational and inspiring pieces illuminate how natives and immigrants, domestic and international, can shape a city.
—Elmaz Abinader, author, This House, My Bones,
                       co-founder and program director, VONA

A treasure chest full of literary gems!
—Naomi Hirahara, author Hiroshima Boy and the Mas Arai  mystery series
This is an open-ended campaign to get the book into more bookstores, schools and libraries, and to support readings and workshops by writers and artists of color. See www.WriteNowSF.com for more information and www.facebook.com/endangeredspeciesSF for updates.
