Emmy's HOPE FLOATS Fund

Last week our friend & co-worker Mike Childers, received a call from his wife Melissa, who was worried that their 11-month old daughter, Emily (Emmy) may have swallowed an object.  She was taking Emmy to the hospital – a terribly scary thought for any parent.  What they thought would be a quick x-ray turned into much more.  Doctor's found a mass in little Emmy's chest and a biopsy confirmed their worst fear, neuroblastoma. Cancer.

After several days of testing at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Mike wrote:  

“Emmy was able to come home with us last night and she is so happy to see her brother and sister and play with her toys.  She has to get an injection on Tuesday for a scan on Wednesday.  The results of the scan is the last piece of information to finalize her treatment plan.  Her Oncologist is estimating 3-6 months of chemo depending on how aggressive the disease is.  Three months would be 4 cycles of treatment and each cycle will be 2-5 days in the hospital to get the medicine and monitor her reaction.  She will get a semi-permanent IV put in a week from Monday and treatment would probably start that same day.  All her treatments will be at All Children's in St. Pete."  

"We're so grateful for all the support we've received from everyone and I think the hard part is just beginning.  I plan to be at work most of next week and will be out for her appointments.  Melissa and I have talked about it and we think we'll be able balance work and Emily's treatment schedule.  Melissa and I have always been fairly self-sufficient but it's more and more apparent that we can't get through this alone and we welcome and support, prayers, and love for our baby girl.”
