Elizabeth (Sapeti) Kilwake

2 years ago, my cousin Elizabeth was diagnosed with Pretibial Myxedema—also called thyroid dermopathy—a very rare autoimmune disease that affects different parts of her body and is very painful. Pretibial Myxedema affects less than 1% of the population, with only 140 cases reported in the USA. Elizabeth had thyroidectomy surgery in May 2017 and has been unable to work at her job at Georgetown University since then. She began chemotherapy in January as a final, experimental treatment. Unfortunately, the family’s emergency savings have been depleted as a result of treatments and all the challenges that come with it, and they will not have any income to provide for Elizabeth’s 17-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son, who has been such a source of strength through this very trying time. As you can imagine, Elizabeth and her children are in need of financial support.

Elizabeth is a wonderful, hard-working and caring woman who has touched many lives in the Washington, DC area and beyond for several decades. Many people call her friend, mom, and grandma. There is no one who embodies community and caretaker more than Elizabeth. We aim to raise as much money as we can to cover a 25-month emergency fund—the length of time of this next round of treatment.

Please consider contributing whatever amount you can to help Elizabeth during this time, or share with your friends and family who may be willing to give and support a great family in need.

God Bless you,
Khayanga & Jennifer
