Radha Govinda’s Urban Gardens

Thank you so much for taking the time to learn more about our mission.

Radha Govinda’s Urban Gardens  is an urban agriculture and sustainability project based at the Radha Krishna Temple in Denver, Colorado.

Just briefly, let me tell you a bit about our temple community. The Radha Krishna Temple is a non-profit organization and is run primarily on donations. Our other sources of income are an Indian gift shop and vegan restaurant of which all profits go toward maintaining our community services. I have outlined some of these services in the above video. These include: 1) Courses and events about ancient Vedic wisdom for modern day application, meditation, simple living, and vegetarian cooking. 2) Vegetarian food distribution to the homeless and to the public in general. 3) Non-secular welcoming sanctuary for anyone and everyone. We are listed as a resource at Denver’s homeless shelters. All of our services are free and open to the public.

The long-term mission of the Radha Govinda’s Urban Gardens project is to create long-lasting opportunities to engage our greater community in healthy and stimulating activities to nurture one another’s minds, bodies, and spirits through organic farming and outdoor learning, to grow all of our own organic produce for our residents and guests, and to reach optimum environmental sustainability through renewable energy and energy conservation practices.

We have already accomplished the following:

*Organic produce from our farm in at least one meal everyday during summer season.
*Converted to All-compostable dinnerware for our vegetarian Sunday feast, 200+ guests.
*Updated all lighting in Temple with High Efficiency LED lights (via a loan).
*Composting program that processes 99% of our raw and cooked food waste.
*Improved signage in Temple for compost and recycling guidelines.
*Urban Farm and Sustainability Internship program

What we will accomplish this year with your support:

*Organic produce from our farm in 3 meals everyday during all four seasons.
*Have the proper farming equipment for our team and volunteers.
*Convert to all reusable dinnerware for our vegetarian Sunday Feast.
*Install a solar power system for our Temple’s electricity.
*Establish rain and water conservation irrigation system for our farm.
*Offer outdoor learning classes to children and adults on sustainable living and urban farming.
*Improve the energy efficiency of our Temple via insulation, replacement of outdated windows and doors.
