Empowerment through Education in Ecuador

Donation protected

This summer, I will be working with the Village Education Project, also known as Educaniños, a local grassroots organization near Otavalo, Ecuador, that works to prepare students for high school. The goal of the program is simple: empowerment through education. Each summer, VEP holds a summer school program to prepare students for high school in the fall. At the end of the program, students who pass a proficiency test will be awarded a $200 scholarship that covers their high school education and supplies needed. This summer, I'll be helping out the program teaching English, math, or computer science.

Please help fund my trip! The program asks that each volunteer fundraises $500, which will go directly into the scholarship fund to provide an education. The program works with scholarship recipients throughout high school to ensure their best possible experience. Any amount of money that you can spare helps!

Education is one of my strongest passions, and empowering a child through education has a profound influence on his or her life, particularly in developing countries. I am especially interested in girls' education and the impact that school has in helping girls transcend gender-based restrictions and re-form their communities. (Click here to learn more). This summer, I will be teaching both girls and boys, and I'm excited for the opportunity to do so. I have past experience in similar programs, such as the Green Street Art Center here at Wesleyan where I work as a teaching assistant and a tutor for students in Middletown.

Please feel free to email me - I would love to talk about the project. Thank you for all of your support!
