Education Research Trip to Burundi, East Africa
Hello
friends, family and supporters,
I
need your help this summer. Some of you
know that I am currently a graduate student in International Education
Development at Teachers College in New York City. I just finished my first year (Woohooo) and
will be spending my summer doing volunteer research in Burundi.
During
my last semester I was an intern with Village Health Works (VHW), a
non-profit organization, which provides quality, compassionate health
care, while treating the root causes of illness through a clinic in Kigutu,
Burundi. They are doing amazing work in Kigutu with their clinic, please check
them out: http://www.villagehealthworks.org/
The
organization is interested in extending their services to the community by
providing quality education to children in the clinic's catchment area. I
was asked by the Executive Director and Co-Founder to suggest education
interventions that would improve learning conditions and educational
outcomes. I will be spending a month and a half in Burundi collecting data,
surveying teachers and interviewing VHW staff members among other things.
I
have applied for funding that will cover half of my expenses, but I need help
with to the other half. That's where all
you beautiful people come in. A dollar, two or three is appreciated and will
help this struggling grad student provide Village Health Works with much needed
research before they start providing education interventions.
Thanks
in advance!
