Emergency Supplies for Haiti Earthquake

                                                                                   Emergency Supplies for Haiti Earthquake

My name is Denise Jean-Baptiste. I was born in Haiti in a little village call Saut-Mathurine (Duvezin). Unlike the average child in the US, growing up I didn’t have much of a childhood. My parents had no formal education; wanting more for me, they worked on the farms to pay for my education. Twenty-eight years after coming to the United States I went back with my family to visit my hometown. Sadly, we were astonished to learn that 95% of the kids did not have even a first-grade education. Immediately we were inspired to help. In this moment
Ephesians 2:10 rang clear: “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

We started with building 1 classroom and hiring 1 teacher. Each week, my family and I would put aside money from our paychecks to pay
the teacher’s salary. Beginning with just 30 kids, before we knew it we had grown to serve almost 100! This growth has been a challenge
for us- but the kids are interested in getting an education, so we cannot turn them down.

Realizing the need for our help was great, the decision was made to officially form a nonprofit and the Organization for the Development
of Camp-Perrin was born. With the intention to improve the mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of children and families within marginalized communities in Haiti, while developing personal relationships with those we serve, we set out to raise funds to expand to serve more children. We organized some fundraisers and sent out letters requesting donations, but the response was bleak. We wanted to give up, but don’t want to disappoint the kids who showed up every day to attend class. Therefore, the ten members of our organization continued
taking from our paychecks to support ODCCP and we managed to build another classroom and hire another teacher.

While we were excited to expand our reach to serve many more children, we soon received word from our teachers that the majority of
the students come to school on empty stomach. Knowing firsthand what it’s like to go to school on empty stomach, members of the
organization decided to again contribute from their own pockets to provide at least one hot meal a day for the students.

Only a year after it was opened, our school was destroyed by Hurricane Matthew. With the support of our generous members, we managed to re-build a 3,000 square foot building to house our educational programs and social services. Once again, we could see our students thrive. Our expectation was for these children to become men and women of God and, in turn, help serve the community and provide their
contribution to the world.

Unfortunately, on August 14th a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the region. The earthquake destroyed the school again, along with every house in the village. Many lives were lost. We have come together and sent some supplies, but our contribution is slim. Due to corruption in Haiti, we don’t expect anything from the Haitian government to reach the people in those communities.

ODCCP envisions a Haiti where residents have access to the resources they need to not only survive, but to thrive. ODCCP focus in
Saut-Mathurine (Duvezin, Ermil, Marc, Les Rois, and Shomet). Camp-Perrin is the biggest commune in Cayes. These communities are so far from the city that they are often forgotten. For that reason, we are asking for your help for those communities. I am now pleading for your assistance to help provide immediate assistance for the people in the village. Our goal is to raise $15,000 to buy tents, blankets,
sleeping, bags, water, and food. We will be sending a team to Haiti to organize short-term disaster relief, but we need your help to do this.
Please donate to support the cause.

We need your help, Haiti needs your help. Thank you for your Generosity.
