East Mountain CERT - Dog Head Fire

East Mountain Citizens Corp which has the following programs: CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and DART (Disaster Animal Response Team) out of Torrance county New Mexico.
We are a small 501(c)(3) organization that was set up in June 2012 by volunteers to help our communities in the East Mountains outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico (that includes Torrance county, Bernalillo county, Sandoval county, Santa Fe county, etc.) with free training on basic first aid, minor search & rescue, animal handling/trailering, triage, cribbing, etc. through disaster preparedness procedures and outreach under FEMA guidelines (ICS, NIMS).
The donations are being utilized to replenish CERT and DART supplies and equipment that were used in setting up the Estancia Fairgrounds Animal/People shelter during the initial call out for the Dog Head Fire near Tajique/Chilili New Mexico on June 14, 2016 before other resources arrived later in the week.
Having the funds available on or before July 31, 2016 would be a blessing so we can continue in our efforts to help our community in disaster preparedness training and outreach.
During this national disaster at the Dog Head Fire, we learned that so many families and their animals were affected (and still are). Some families were unable to get all their animals out of the affected fire areas. We realize now that additional training and outreach could help our communities moving forward with educating people on the importance of having a disaster plan for themselves and for their animals (livestock, dogs, cats, equines, etc.).
Our hearts go out to those families affected by the fire! We will continue to support our communities as volunteers and neighbors!
