Emmaus House Holiday Wish List

Donation protected

They call this the "season of giving". November is the time to be thankful and then December is the time to give and receive. What a wonderful time of year!
For ministries such as Emmaus House, we have a lot to be thankful for! In this year alone God helped create our organization when the need to assist our teenagers arose, provided us enough funds in just a few short months to get us started, gave us two homes (one for the teenagers and Jonathan's family and one for our own family), continues to give us some AMAZING sponsors, protected and healed one of our teens from a life-threatening injury, sent our students back to school and provided them with all of their supplies, and continues to supply our daily needs.

In other words, we at Emmaus House have been blessed this year! Overly blessed! First by God and then by you all, our friends and supporters. And we can't thank you enough.

Now as 2013 is coming to an end and as the holiday season is soon approaching us, we at Emmaus House are calling on you to help provide us with 5 much needed items as we enter the New Year.
Let us introduce you to the Emmaus House Holiday Wish List!
Who can help?

PRIORITY GIFT #1: SHIPPING A VEHICLE

When we say that our family/Emmaus House needs a vehicle, we mean we REALLY NEED A VEHICLE. Living solely on a motorcycle is just not cutting it anymore. Let us tell you what we mean:

-It inhibits the amount of networking and partnering we can do with fellow missions and business down here in Haiti
- During the rainy season (like now) we get drenched on the moto daily while running errands
- We can't pick up our packages at the airport on a moto
- We can't take Vivian and the girls to market every week on the moto
- We can't drive teams around on a moto when they come to visit. Rather, they would have to rent a vehicle, which is quite pricey down here.
- And not to mention life on the moto is just unsafe and unsanitary all around. We have had multiple injuries (burns, scrapes, falls, wrecks and such), witnessed multiple accidents, been peed on by men on the side of the road (no kidding), and we aren't always in favor of our little ones riding with us (Dalencia often falls asleep on the moto and we have to hold her up from falling over).

We already have a vehicle that has been donated to Emmaus just sitting at Missionary Flights International waiting to be moved to the port to be shipped. All we need is the financial support to ship it, pay the customs, and the license and tags once it arrives in Haiti.

Here is the estimated break down of costs:

Shipping ($2,000), customs ($4,000), Hunter's trip to FL to complete the paperwork ($500), License and Haiti paperwork on truck ($500)
TOTAL: $ 7,000

PRIORITY GIFT #2: TUTOR FOR 11th GRADE

This year we have six 11th graders and four of them failed this grade last year and are repeating the year over again. That said, we are in desperate need of a tutor for this group of students. In Haiti, the 11th grade is traditionally known as a "make it or break it" year and we really need to give our students all the help they get. We asked Jonathan (our house father) what he thought they needed, his suggestion was a tutor of his choice. He has been able to help them some, but after working with them for the past month, he has realized that their needs are beyond his expertise.

If you know any of our 11th graders (Lobe, Manno, Jetro, Jenny, Josie, and Kencia) or understand the importance of education, please consider gifting our students a tutor this year!

Jonathan has found a tutor, someone he knows well and trusts. The costs to hire this tutor for all six students for the remainder of the school year (December- mid June) will be:Total: $1,200

PRIORITY GIFT #3: WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM

Every month we spend $60 USD on clean drinking water for those living at Emmaus House. That means in one year alone, we spend $720 simply in drinking water.

Last month we had to take Papouch to the doctor for a rash that was all over his back. The doctor's diagnosis? Papouch had a bacterial infection that was caused by the water he was bathing in at Emmaus House. The doctor's recommendation: bathe in purified water only.

In other words, we could really use a water purification system at Emmaus House. Not only would it be cost effective in the long run for our drinking water, but it would also contribute to the safety and wellbeing of our teenagers.

In order to purchase a water purification system for our size tanks, we need.
Total: $850

PRIORITY GIFT #4: WORK PROGRAM

In January we will be launching a new work program for the youth of Emmaus House. We have been working with our youth to create jobs that would be fun for them to do and at the same time help to teach them a good work ethic and small business management. We have arranged the 17 youth into three groups: Sewing, T-shirt screen printing, and jewelry making.

To get this program up and running, we need to cover some start up costs.

- Locally purchased materials for sewing and jewelry making.
- New need to buy ink and T-shirts for our screen printing machine.
- Packaging for shipping sold items.
- Assorted office supplies to help with the management side of the groups.
- Need to buy materials for advertising locally and abroad.

The youth will be working after school and on the weekends to create products that can be sold to visiting Americans, local vendors, and online.

Total needed to get all of this set up:

Total: $2,000

PRIORITY GIFT #5: NEW GENERATOR

Electricity is something often taken for granted in America, but in Haiti we have to use generators daily to help maintain the house and our work. We are in need of a new generator for Emmaus House because the one that came with the house is not reliable. Since we have moved into the house, we have spent an average of $100 a month into repairs. A new generator would benefit the work of Emmaus House in a number of ways:

- It would be considered an investment that will provide a reliable power source for years to come.
- It will provide enough power to run the screen printing machine for our work program that starts in January.
- It will aid in pumping water to the tanks on the roof which provides our kids with running water in the house.
- It will be more fuel efficient than the one we are currently using, thus lowering the amount of fuel needed each month.
- It will provide the youth and house family with much needed power at night so they can more easily eat dinner, study for school, and do their devotionals.

We will be able to buy a quality generator in Port au Prince for:
