Sumner Academy  is the #1 ranked School in Kansas, with that being said  80% of the students are in a minority, 69% qualify for free and reduced lunches and 100% of its seniors graduate. 

Some of Sumner's students are making straight A's and scoring close to perfect on their ACT/SAT's and unfortunately are living in shelters or small homes shared by several family members.

I had a straight A student tell me that being good was not good enough, that he has to work twice as hard on everything everyday  just to get the opportunity to go to college. Scholarships and grants are his only hope.  He said that through relentless diligence, accepting constructive criticism, and discipline he could escape the clutches of poverty through education. He choose to define the moment instead of letting the moment define him.

Dustin believed that education was the gateway to achieving success.  Through scholarships and grants he was able to attend the University of Kansas and receive his masters degree in Civil Engineering.
