My name is Laura Donnelly. I recently graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor's in Health Science. This August, I will be heading to Cape Town, South Africa for a year to work as a volunteer intern for Grassroot Soccer (GRS), an international non-profit organization that uses the power of soccer to mobilize, inspire and educate communities to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. GRS implements their curriculum in African communities in the form of activities-based soccer clinics, where local role models educate youth about HIV prevention and life skills. As an intern, I will be providing logistical and programmatic support to ensure the efficient, successful implementation of the Grassroot Soccer curriculum.
Throughout my life, I have developed an enormous passion for soccer and community service, a love for working with young people, and a deep belief in the importance of social justice. I also have strong aspirations to enter into the fields of medicine and public health. For these reasons, I am incredibly excited to work for an organization that uses soccer as an educational tool to promote social change.
However, I have some work to do before August! GRS recommends that interns raise $10,000 to cover the costs of roundtrip airfare, food, and other living expenses while in Africa. Your support will allow me to join the movement to stop the spread of the HIV epidemic in Sub-Saharan Africa and to impact the lives of others in a significant way.
A donation of any size makes a huge difference. Thank you so much for your support. I truly appreciate it!
