From Dreams to Displacement: A Family's Gaza War Journey

Donation protected
We’re a family of five trying to survive the horrors of the Gaza war and hoping to find a new life.

My name is Nagham Jaber and I’m an architect. My sister Duaa Jaber, works in motion graphics and Reem Jaber is an UI/UX designer. My brother Ahmad Jaber is set to graduate as a computer engineer this year; and our remarkable mother bravely leads us since our father's passing eleven years ago. Despite being blind since childhood, he was the guiding light of our family.

Less than a year ago, we finally moved into our new home, a sanctuary we built with love for years.

But our world turned upside down on October 7th, the war forced us to flee our home, surrounded by terrifying sounds of bombs. Since then, we've been displaced over seven times, desperately seeking lost safety. From Gaza city to Bureij camp, then Rafah, a city with a million displaced people.

Here, in a small apartment with five other families, we endure harsh conditions—no clean water, adequate food, gas, electricity, internet, or privacy; sharing one bathroom and a small kitchen.

Adding to our challenges is my brother Ahmad, who suffers from brittle bone disease and has endured ‏countless fractures throughout his entire life.

My mother has been struggling with him since he was a child, always worried about his well-being. Each time we escape from nearby explosions, he becomes our primary concern because we know he can’t flee as easily.

Our greatest fear is being forcibly displaced from Rafah on foot because it would be incredibly difficult for him.

In the blink of an eye, our dream home, where we had barely begun to create memories, was reduced to rubble, burying our hopes and cherished belongings.

With debts still unpaid, and without a place to call home, even after the war. To compound our struggles, the loss of my online job, along with my sisters, leaving us struggling in Rafah without income, where prices are soaring and conditions are worsening.

After enduring over 180 days of relentless war, during the holy month of Ramadan, the devastating loss of my friend and her family fills me with sorrow and fear.

This tragedy compels me to share our story, reminding the world that we are not numbers.

In this campaign, we seek safety from the ongoing war, hoping to fulfill our dreams and find new opportunities. However, we struggle to afford the high travel costs due to the war, to cross the borders.

We humbly ask for your support to survive, build a better future, and start afresh.

Thank you for caring and taking the time to read our story.

With your support, we can raise $41,160 to facilitate the evacuation of our five family members.

$32,500 for evacuation from Gaza to Egypt ($6,500 per person for five people).

$7,500 for travel expenses, food, and accommodation. In the meantime, we can secure a place to live and work to find stability.
