Let's Support Don Pabel's Family

On July 8, 2017 the world lost a wonderful man, Don Pabel Antonio Romero Pérez. He was assasinated by gang members as he went about his regular work of transporting goods throughout the Ahuachapán region of El Salvador.
Anyone who has volunteered in El Salvador for Books for a Better World has a special bond with Don Pabel. It all began about 15 years ago when our organization needed help getting books to many of the rural schools in the region. Pabel was eager to help, and he quickly became an integral part of our success in this special part of the world. Anyone who had a chance to traverse the muddy roads of Ahuachapán with Don Pabel will remember his excitement and dedication for our cause. He was a loyal friend, and always took the greatest of care to ensure that volunteers (and books) arrived safely.

As the Board of Directors for Books for a Better World, we have decided to support the widow and children of Don Pabel with financial assistance, as well as create a special library in his honor. As a special tribute, the library will be started at his youngest daughter's school.
The funds raised will be used to assist his wife (Ruth), three daughters (Rosmerry - 17, Yancy - 15 and Marilyn - 7) and his 10 month old son (Pabelito).
Here is a breakdown of how the funds will be used:
$350 - Special library at Marilyn's school
$500 - One year of tuition, travel and school supplies for Yancy.
$150 - School supplies for his youngest daughter, Marilyn.
$500 - Living expenses while the family adjusts to the sudden drop in income.
Any funds that are raised over our goal will be used toward other expenses, as the family sees fit. As you can imagine, Pabel was a hard worker and the family will struggle to make up for the giant drop in income.
As the International Relationships Coordinator for Books for a Better World, I (Allen Beach) will be managing the donations we receive. Since this fundraiser is outside of our organization's regular operations, I will receive the funds into a special account (in my name) and wire the money directly to Don Pabel's wife (Ruth). I will keep detailed records of this, and will be happy to provide this to anyone by request.
