Di Bisceglie Family Fundraiser

HI! My name is Francesca and I am setting up this Go Fund Me page to help my brother, Alex Di Bisceglie, and his family. Alex and his wife, Angela, have two daughters named Alexa and Aida. One of their daughters, Alexa, is a medically fragile child.

They live near Boston so she is getting the best medical care at Boston Children’s Hospital. . To quote my sister-in-law’s blog post FaithAbleAngela “in a nutshell-my oldest daughter has a brain tumor, epilepsy, interstitial lung disease”. “And “Over the years, some of the best doctors in the world have called Alexa’s medical conditions: complex, confusing, a conundrum, unique, perplexing, an enigma and many other fun SAT vocab words. It is never: “We know exactly how to treat her.”

Alex and Angela never dreamed when they had their first child it would involve numerous doctor visits, tests, hospitalizations, surgeries, and challenges. After her first birthday Alexa started having seizures for no apparent reason. It was determined Alexa had a brain tumor. As a toddler she had brain surgery to remove the tumor. However, due to its location they were unable to remove all of it. This has led to numerous medications to control the seizures, chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, doctor visits, testing/studies, MRI’s, surgeries, and constant worry over every little change in her. I don’t know how they do it. I do know they have faith in God and good friends in their church.

Alexa celebrated her 16th birthday this year. They definitely try to provide her some normalcy in spite of her medical problems. She is a typical teenager fights with her sister, likes music (a Taylor Swift fan), always on her iPad, plays sports, and likes to workout. She has in the past taken dance lessons, played musical instruments, and taken surf lessons. This year she got a service dog who barks when she has a seizure. Alexa loves her dog whose nickname is Boo.

This summer they decided to do chemotherapy again to try to shrink the tumor as it had grown. In October, they had another MRI scan. The scan showed a centimeter of growth while she was undergoing chemotherapy. A consult with a surgeon was had. Alexa had to undergo another neurosurgery as soon as possible. She had surgery on 10/28/21. They sent part of the tumor that was removed out for biopsy. The results came back. Alex and Angela received news that no parent wants to hear: Cancer. They don’t know what the treatment plan will be if just chemo, radiation or a combination of the two. The doctors will come up with a plan for treatment. Hopefully, this was caught at the early stage.

Alex took FMLA from work for Alexa’s surgery. Angela stayed with Alexa in the hospital and now at rehab. Alex is the main source of income for the family. Angela’s main focus has been her family while running an ebay store. If you could donate to help them out with medical/living expenses, it would be one less thing for them to worry about as well as greatly appreciated.
