Dennis and Amellia

We are typically not the kind of people that ask for help. We are more often the ones who like to give help.  We have been through hard times before and felt we would get through this.

Not this time….

In August of 2016, my husband Dennis was diagnosed with throat cancer. In September of that same year, we learned that it was stage 4 cancer and treatment started not long after that.

37 radiation treatments and 8 Rituximab (a type of Chemo) treatments he made it through. The cancer is gone. Praise the Lord!!!

The recovery from the treatments left permanent scars both physical and mental, but he survived.

Dennis tried to return to work but the more medications they were able to take him off of, the more he seemed to tremble.

Just before Easter, he was medication free. On Easter Sunday, we went to the ER instead of church. He was shaking so much he couldn’t talk, walk or stand. They said it may be Essential tremors, a type of Parkinson’s. We saw a Neurologist and it was confirmed.

He now is on his third try of medications. He has tried to return to work. After all, he has been working since he was 16. That’s what he does.

Not anymore. His doctor wrote the letter this week that he will be unable to return to the job he has been very good at and has been enjoying, driving a Commercial tractor trailer. Our daughter says he is “freaky accurate," but if he is shaking, then he is not safe to drive a big truck.

He was a Houston ISD and Sugarland Police officer and then a truck driver. He was a personal trainer in Houston and we teach 3 and 4 yr old children's sunday school. One little girl even says "He's the bestest sunday school teacher EVER." He volunteers in the off season of his job at the local shelters. He strives to help the community in any way he can. Now we are in need of help.

We have applied for disability but need financial blessings until Social Security decides to award him his Disability. We don’t know how long this will take.

My income alone is not enough to pay the house payment, car payment, utilities and medical expenses. Our church has been helping with utilities as much as they can, but we are still in need.

I have Fibromyalgia, Diabetes and Arthritis. The stress we have been under for the last year has affected me as well. My medications have been changed and are being increased alot.

We used all our savings surviving the cancer and now have very large medical expenses. We don’t know what the next step is if these medications do not work to control his shaking. It seems to be getting worse, not better, as time goes by.

Again, we are not usually the people to ask for help. We are ones that offer help. Now we are in need.

Please pray and ask God to tell you what to do.

If you cannot help, we understand.

If you can help. Thank you.
