September 2017, Denise was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer to the bones. Survival rate for Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC) is 22% with average life expectancy of 18 months to 3 yrs. Only 24% of MBC patients are still alive 5 years after diagnosis. There is no cure for MBC. The numbers are not encouraging but Denise has tremendous faith in a mighty God. She is determined to fight the battle of her life for as long as she can and for as long as it's the Lord's will.
In 2007, at 42 yrs of age, Denise was first diagnosed with Stage I Breast Cancer. She had a double mastectomy, underwent chemotherapy and was considered cancer-free until 2017 when the cancer returned as Stage 4 metastasized to the bones. September 2017, Denise had a 4.5cc cancerous tumor removed from her chest. In 2018, her lower back column was broken and nerves were crushed blocking oxygen from reaching to her legs. The damage was attributed to the chemotherapy treatments and recurrence of cancer leaving her bones deteriorated and frail. February 2019, she had a 1st Level Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion with Posterior Spinal Fixation (Front & Back Spine Surgery). Denise continues to receive ongoing treatment in the battle against MBC to the bones. Medical needs are for her ongoing Oncology visits, PETScans, MRIs, Bone Scans, continuous treatments and help with her medical health insurance costs.
Denise uses her journey to bring awareness to MBC, to encourage others battling cancer, to bring hope to those impacted by cancer.
