Daniel Costlow HAD a broken heart

Donation protected

Think back to the day you met Daniel Costlow.  Most likely he weaved you a good tale or told you a corny joke.  OK, he probably did both!  Certainly, that special day, you had a few deep belly laughs and parted with a smile on your face.  It’s a rare gift to be able to make friends of strangers and a true blessing when those strangers go from acquaintances to lifelong friends.  Daniel has the rare knack of being able to do just that.  He is a blessing to everyone that is fortunate enough to call him his lifelong friend, and that is just about everyone he meets.

On Saturday, May 20, 2017 he wrapped up a day at the salon, had some dinner and headed home.  He tied up a few loose ends around his home & fed his animals.   All the while not feeling quite right but thinking the feeling would pass.  As the uneasy feeling turned to outright pain he decided he needed to be evaluated.  He drove himself to the hospital.  Yes, he drove himself!

Unbeknownst to Daniel, he was about to start the fight of his life.  Daniel was having a heart attack.  He was taken from the ER to the cath lab; leaving that department with two coronary stents and a diagnosis of multi-vessel coronary artery disease.  He spent the night in the ICU alone.  Remember all the friends he has?  Well, Daniel didn’t want to worry anyone.

On Wednesday, May 24, Daniel went to surgery.  He had Coronary Artery Bypass grafts done on three additional diseased arteries.  He did amazing through surgery and his first post-operative night.  Now starts the recovery phase of his hospitalization.

If his hospital recovery was the only challenge he had to look forward to this would be the end of this tale. Unfortunately, recovery continues long after he turns in his beloved backless hospital gown and waves good-bye to all the new friends he has made during his stay there.

Daniel will be out of work while his heart and body repair.  In addition to the financial burden of the hospital stay, he will have mounting medical expenses.  Not to mention that his basic living expenses will begin to swell while he is unable to pick up his sheers.

If you can call Daniel your friend you understand just how easy it was to put these words to pen.  He is a proud and genuine man that has brought happiness into so many lives.  We can all be thankful for the love and laughter he has given us to date.  Now, we can also give thanks for the many future stories he will share and the jokes we will hopefully get to hear.  Please help with anything you can.  It would be beyond any wish that his only concern now is healing and getting his strength back and not how to meet his financial obligations during this extremely challenging time.
