Restoring Dog Walk Area at Shelter

Donation protected
Daniel Mountain's Eagle Project

Daniel and his sister have been volunteering at the shelter since they were little.

So it was only natural for him to take on a large project for the shelter when it came time to choose an Eagle Project for Boy Scouts.

What does he want to do?

Over time the walking path for the dogs has aged.  He wants to replace all of the timbers, lay landscaping tarp, and haul in crushed rock to make this dog walking path usable again.  As you can see from the pictures it needs a great deal of work to make it functional.

So why is this walking path so vital to the shelter?

Many of the dogs that come into the shelter have little to no leash skills.  To help them have the best chance of getting adopted, volunteers teach the dogs how to behave on a leash.  Restoring the path will give the dogs a place to "practice" walking on a sidewalk.

It is dogs like these that can saved by providing a good place to leash train before people looking for a pet come to visit.

This dog had been living in a homeless woman's car for most of it's life.   It barely could walk when it was dropped off.

Oak Ridge has worked hard to make their shelter a No Kill shelter, and they are almost there.  This little guy named Rex was rescued just before a massive tragedy.  His vet bills are past the $1000.00 mark.

Once the dogs get rehabilitated, the ones that are not adopted in Oak Ridge are placed in a regional exchange program.  Dogs from the Oak Ridge Shelter have traveled to 6 different states to meet their new adopted families.  Leash skills are a dogs best friend for getting adopted.

Dan needs $1400.00 to restore the Dog Walking Area.  All extra money raised over the $1400.00 will go to the shelter to provide gas cards for the transport van.  The van holds up to 10 dogs and cats and travels to multiple states that have a shortage of adoptable animals.
