Damian’s Leukemia Battle

Damian is a Loving partner and dedicated father to 4 beautiful children who resides in northern NSW. On 10/02/2019 at aged 31 Damian presented to Lismore base hospital with what we initially thought was a bad case of tonsillitis. After having the 1st blood test of his adult life he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) He was rushed from Lismore base hospital straight to the Gold Coast University Hospital to begin treatment. He and his partner had to leave their 4 children with family back home in NSW for 5 months while he received chemotherapy. After fighting hard, he got into remission and was able to return home. He was returning to GCUH every 3 months for check ups, and unfortunately in March 2020, just 9 months after his last round of chemo the results weren’t so good and he had to have checks every month. On his sons 10th birthday (may 20) he got the call to say his numbers had jumped up and his Leukemia has relapsed.  The only option for a potential cure now is a Bone Marrow Transplant which will take place at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Unfortunately he did not have a 100% HLA matched donor on the worldwide bone marrow register and is doing a more risky HAPLO transplant using a half matched donor. His 14 yr old beautiful and brave little girl is donating her stem cells to her daddy❤️ What she is doing is a very big thing at such a young age and we couldn’t be more prouder of her for her generous gift of life! 
Once again they will have to leave their children behind for 5 months to receive life saving treatment. As Damian cannot work, and his partner is up there caring for him, they still need to pay their rent which is $400 a week so they will have a home to come back to after treatment. Parking at the hospital gets quite expensive and they pay out of pocket for all that. As you would expect the bills will start piling up and every little bit raised will help to ease their finically stresses at this very difficult time. Thank you again for taking the time to read.
