Go Fund Miss Jennie

Donation protected
Dear Parents and Friends,

Jennie Parra, the Dalhousie Out of School Care program site supervisor at our Dallyn Street location, has recently been diagnosed with a serious illness and will be unable to work for an unknown period of time. Additionally, her husband has had to take a compassionate leave from his job in order to provide her with the care she requires. Consequently, this has put an unexpected financial strain on the family.

Jennie’s husband recently emailed us to say, ‘Jennie is doing great, she is finishing the second week of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. There is still four more weeks to go. So far there is not any strong side effect on her health.’

Jennie is a valued and much loved employee who has contributed greatly to the children and families at our Dallyn Street location. As one of our parents recently wrote to me in an email, ‘Miss Jennie transformed our Dallyn Street program in such a short period of time and she genuinely cares about the children. This is all very upsetting, and she left so quickly. She is an amazing and strong woman.

I know the children miss her, and I miss her too!’

Jennie enjoyed helping the children in our program to organize community service projects to support others in need. Two such projects during the past year were our Christmas Craft Sale to raise money to buy toys for children in need and more recently the HOP for Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Now it is our turn to contribute to Jennie and her family during this difficult time.

The children of the Dalhousie Out of School Care program have decided to collect bottles and other empty recyclable containers during the month of June to raise money to help support Jennie and her family. We would very much appreciate any donations of bottles and recyclable containers from friends, neighbors, or the community at large. Donations may be dropped off at the Dalhousie Community Centre.

We are all saddened by the situation and would like to support Jennie and her family in any way that we can. The Dalhousie Out of School Care program invites you to donate to the ‘Go Fund Miss Jennie’ campaign. Your contributions will be most appreciated as we are looking forward to raising sufficient funds to truly help ease the financial burden on Jennie and her family. We are looking forward to presenting Jennie and her family with a substantial cheque and even more to the smile on her face when she receives this wonderful gift. Thank you for your donation!
