David Rhodes End of Life Care

David Rhodes is a loving husband, father, and grandfather (among other things) who always tried to do right by his family. David was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease w/ Emphysema, at first he hid the disease from his family because David never wanted anyone to worry about him. A couple of months down the road the family found out. It seemed like the progression was almost immediate, we started to see changes in him, very fatigued, out of breath very quickly, and not able to do his favorite activities including working on race cars and going to the race track on the weekends. Our father was a genius when it came to racing, he was sought after by many people. He eventually started wearing oxygen 24/7, then the most simple tasks became very difficult as his disease progressed. He has had multiple hospital stays that have resulted in the family having over $100,000 worth of medical costs. David was not one to ask for charity, he was very proud. COPD is not curable. The process of death is brutal especially for the family to witness. We all realized that our father pushed through 8 years of this disease to spend time with his family, to be present for weddings, birthdays, holidays, and babies but he can no longer do it anymore. David is in hospice in the hospital where the doctors and nurses are doing an extraordinary job keeping him comfortable. Unfortunately, David is at the end of his journey, he fought and he fought and now it is time to give him peace, we truly believe God is calling him home along with his daughter that passed away in 2015. This is extremely difficult on the family as David was geniunely loved by all he came in contact with.  As a family we know that our lives will never be the same once he is gone. He will be missed dearly by friends and family.  I feel like I could go on and on about how amazing our father is but those who know him know that I don't need to. Please share David's story.
