Autism Awareness Dog for Cody McGillem

We are so grateful to all those who helped us reach our fundraising goal in order to qualify to begin the process of getting Cody his Autism Awareness dog. The service dog will provide Cody with some of the freedom he longs for, and the safety and friend that his family desires for him. The words thank you do not begin to express our gratitude.
We are now beginning the second phase of our fundraising. This step in the fundraising process is to help with the expenses of actually going down and being trained to handle the service dog. Cody and his parents are required to attend a two week training course on handling the service dog in relation to Cody. This time will also be used for Cody and the dog to get to know each other and for the service dog to interact with Cody one-on-one under the purview of the trainers so that proper recognition of child’s behavior and the dog’s responses can be observed, tweaked, and implemented during these two weeks of training. The trainers will also work with us, Cody’s parent, to educate and train us on our role and interaction with the dog. This requires both parents to each miss two weeks of work without pay, in addition to the expenses of travel, lodging, food, and miscellaneous expenses. Family leave time for this training is without pay. As such, your contributions are vitally important in Cody’s journey to be united with newly trained autistic assistance dog.
Our hope is that we will be able to fundraise enough to cover the trip and the training so that when Cody’s dog is ready, we can schedule the training session. Any monies above and beyond our needs would be donated to help another child and his family.
This has been an amazing journey and we are so grateful to all who have already donated and to those who will donate in the future.
