11 Wins(and maybe more); Our first League Championship in 10 years and the school's first District Championship Game. This didn't just happen overnite or easily.
5 Years Ago, MT Football was looking for a new head coach after the prior coach left in January 2012.. The school had to act immediately . A coach was recommended and pursued by our Football Association. That coach was the head coach of Elco, Mark Evans. Mark took the leap and started May, 2012 and had to pull together his team, full of seniors, very quickly.
Coach Evans was known as a very good coach at a small school. He was looking for a big school to show what he could do. The struggle was he lived in Northern Lebanon with a wife who worked in Lebanon and 3 HS age kids who would have to make the move also.
Unfortunately for Mark and his wife, they had a home they could not sell so for a year and a half as they tried to sell their home they made the commute to Lancaster to be in the school and weight room by 6:30am and at one point living in an apartment in Township.
As the need to sell the home increased, pressure was put on Coach Evans to move to Township . So Jen and Mark made the choice to sell their home at a large loss to make their dream a reality and allow their kids to attend township without hardship.
During this time a mindset was happening at Township. Coach Evans instituted summer team trips and football camps creating a bond among his team. He pushed weight room every morning off season to increase size and strength to be competitive. He also instituted accountability and that no player was guaranteed a role. they had to earn it. In essence, he promoted team over individuality. Everyone had to buy in for this to work.
In year 5 with his 2nd team that he had from 9th thru 12th grade his hard work and efforts paid off. A unified team that won the L-L League and at this time on 2nd round of Districts.
We wish to thank Mark and Jen for all their hard work and effort by creating a fund for a very nice vacation they have not really had an opportunity for.
