Clothing for Education - Lettie De Klerk School
In 2014, the Swings for Dreams team traveled to Nieu-Bethesda, South Africa, a small village in the Eastern Cape to invest in the community by building a park and playground for the Lettie De Klerk primary school of 200+ children. By providing a safe space to play, the children were excited to come to school and be more present within their community of fellow students. This playground created an environment essential to the physical and emotional development during a critical time where they're growing into the person they will soon some day become.
Through the opportunity, our hearts grew close to the bright, smiling faces of the children within the primary school and the surrounding, welcoming community.
Due to recent current events of an ongoing pandemic, the children of the school have been particularly impacted by the economic downturn this has caused within the community. With parents unable to adequately provide warm clothing during the below freezing temperatures of the winter months ahead, children within the school are often unable to attend classes or learn in an environment best suited for building their future.
We are looking to raise funds to completely outfit every boy and girl within the primary school of 200+ students with clothing that will keep them warm and best prepared to build upon their education.
While a contribution of any amount will be greatly appreciated, a donation of $50 will provide the following items to each child:
- Scarf
- Gloves
- Beanie
- Socks
- Sweater
- Jacket
- Trousers
- Long-sleeve shirt
- Underwear
- Long underwear
- Shoes
