July 28th 2010 my family member Keisha Smith was diagnosed with late stage infiltrating ductal breast cancer with the BRCA1 genetic marker. The disease traveled to her lymph nodes and was very aggressive, and the treatment caused other illnesses like Pseudo Tumor Cerebri, Addison’s disease and blindness. Through it all, she is determined to fight and not let cancer rule her life. Please read her story below.
Over these past 6 years I have had so many surgeries that I've lost count. I have not battled alone as I do have 4 children who when I began this battle were just 10, 12, 14, and 17 yrs. old. They were all at very important stages of growth. I have to be honest it isn't as easy for me to type this because I do need support financially as so many do but I also receive so many prayers already as I am currently using a feeding tube for at least the next 6 weeks to hopefully get my body strong enough to be able to go for my next surgery. I am to weak and underweight at the moment. My medical bills as anyone fighting would know are OUTRAGEOUS! Just getting to and from the Doctors Office location (1.5 hour away) and all that goes with going to the appointments are a physical and financial draining i.e. medications and
supplies such as the gravity feed bags or the syringes, tubing’s etc. are not covered. Co pays add up over the years as well. I’m determined to fight the battle and not give up. I help and inspire others who are struggling with cancer to dream and live for the future and I've earned the name 'Chemocoah'. Your donation and prayers are very much appreciated and will help pay for medication and medical bills. THANK YOU, AND GOD BLESS YOU!!
