Have you heard the story of Tahlequah (J35) , a member of the critically endangered southern resident population of orca whales, who carried her dead calf on her head for 17 days in July and August? Tahlequah and her pod are in jeopardy because the chinook salmon population is dwindling. A lack of food is resulting in the malnourishment of some orcas, and in the failure of this orca pod to produce offspring.
Would you like to do something to help these magnificent creatures? Become a salmon champion and support FISH.
Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH) champions the annual miracle of salmon in our fragile environment. FISH needs YOUR contribution to spread our message of environmental stewardship, increase our visibility in the community, and ensure that Issaquah's iconic salmon keep coming home. Your support of FISH will mean the community understands that salmon are an integral part of the Puget Sound ecosystem, and an essential element of the orca diet.
Tax deductible donations to FISH fund:
Children and youth are the focus of FISH's education outreach. These children and youth are tomorrow's custodians of the earth. We must ensure our future leaders understand the significance of salmon and the importance of healthy salmon habitat. Additionally, policy makers and the general public need to know that abundant salmon runs support a healthy marine ecosystem and are indicators of overall environmental health.
The salmon are counting on you. So are the orcas. Give today.
Thank you for being a salmon champion!
