Gina's Cash for Chemo Fund

My name is Pete Tucker and I am asking for your help for my daughter Gina.

Gina Tucker is a critical care nurse that has cared for and helped people in many different walks of life. They were experiencing physical, emotional, and financial crisis. During her career as a nurse she purchased groceries, prescriptions, clothes and paid electric bills with her personal funds to help the patients that she cared for.

After all her years working in healthcare she now finds herself on the other side as a patient in need of a helping hand.

Gina is a proud nurse. Her accomplishments include managing an intensive care unit and rapid response team as well as opening a chest pain center for the community she serves. She’s been involved in many community activities including participation in habitat for humanity, outreach for deployed military nurses and serving as president of the areas American Association of Critical Care Nurses for multiple terms.

Out of nowhere in January of 2016 Gina became severely ill and was hospitalized with an unknown illness. Over the next few months she sought the care of multiple specialist. During that period of time she struggled with increased weakness and difficulty breathing. Despite her illness she continued to work.

Later in the year Gina woke up with left leg paralysis, extreme burning pain in her legs, tremors and weakness. After another lengthy stay at the hospital she was diagnosed with central nervous system lupus and Sjogren’s syndrome, auto immune diseases. Over the next few months she spent more time in the hospital than she did at home. These diseases affect the brain, nervous system and spinal cord. She again sought the help of multiple specialists and was put on a regiment of multiple medications, high dose steroids, and chemotherapy.

Gina again returned to work, despite the fact she struggled to function with her weakness, walker and oxygen.

In early 2017 Gina was also diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension and was forced to stop working altogether. She was heartbroken. Her love for nursing and for her colleagues made leaving her career as excruciating as her illness.

Since Gina left her nursing career her financial scenario has spiraled out of control. Gina was the primary bread winner for her family. Her savings were depleted, and retirement funds were used for treatments and multiple hospitalizations. She struggled to pay for the day to day necessities, more less her medications.  She has lost her physical independence, financial security, her career as a nurse and finally her home.

After a lengthy time, void of income, Gina received disability with no back pay.  Disability pay is minimal and barely covers expenses. Medical bills are mounting. In addition to her 27 daily medications Gina needs to receive four doses of chemo a year, which is extremely expensive.

As her father I ask you for two things, your prayers and financial assistance for my daughter. We continue to pull together every cent we can as a family, but it’s just not enough. Please look into your heart and assist Gina in her time of need. A donation of any amount will be greatly appreciated.
