The Carter Joseph Medical fund

In 2016 David and Melissa Joseph were blessed with the news that they were going to have a second child.  Something they never thought would happen since 8 years had past since they had their first son.  However, after receiving this blessing they were broadsided with the most frightening news a parent could receive.  Their unborn child was going to be born with a serious heart defect, transposition of the great arteries as well as a ventricular septal defect.  The initial outlook was bleak for their child as they began to realize their child would never live the normal life that so many of us have the chance to do.

Meet Carter Joseph.  He was born on April 18, 2017.  He is a happy little 8 month old boy who smiles and laughs like all kids should.  Since his birth Carter has been in and out of the hospital for extended stays and numerous procedures to save his life, Including two open heart surgeries.  This poor child is so adapted to the pain at 8 months old that he does not wince or cry when getting his blood sugar taken or given an IV.  Pain has been part of his daily existence in the short amount of time he has been on this planet.  The surgery to correct his defects were supposed to have been after he had gained enough weight to make the procedure safer.  However, the surgery had to happen sooner, as at 8 months old Carter had stopped gaining weight.  His little heart just couldn't handle it.  The open heart surgery to create a cadaver valve for his heart was a success on November 16, 2017.  He is now home and recovering with the numerous wounds from the surgery.  He is gaining weight and will hopefully only require one more surgery like the one he just endured when he is older to allow him to live a more normal life.

As you can imagine this all did not come easy.  The biggest tolls have been emotionally and financially on the Joseph family.  Dave and Melissa's insurance held up the surgery for 4 hours as the hospital and insurance company were arguing whether or not to have the procedure done.  In the end the procedure was performed.  The numerous procedures and operations on carter has added up to tens of thousands of dollars for the Joseph family and is threatening to swallow them up in debt for years to come.  I am creating this fund for Dave and Melissa because they are too proud to ask for help.  They have opened their home to others who needed it free of charge for months at a time, myself included.  Dave has remodeled bathrooms, laid floors for family and friends free of charge to help them out when they needed it.  I have seen Melissa meet a random person while out and begin to lend them counsel, for no other reason other than she hates to see people suffering.  They have given so much too so many lives that I feel that this is the least I can do to help two such amazing, selfless, and kind people.

Please, if you do not wish to donate or are unable to that is fine, I just ask that you share this with your friends and family to help a family who have helped so many others.  Remember this is to help them pay for the medical bills and to help them compensate for the many days of missed work over the past 8 months.

Thank you,

Steven Muehlenbrock

P.S. 100% of this money will go directly to them and help pay for the medical bills.  When I give them the money I will post a video of it so that those interested can see how you have changed their lives.
