We are pleased to announce that we have a new addition to our family, baby Claire Vlassis is here! At this time we are in need of your help, prayers and support.
Claire's Story:
When my sister in law Rebekah went in for her 20 week ultrasound, she and her husband Matthew discovered that baby Claire had spina bifida. The doctor explained she had an opening on her back where her spinal cord had not developed correctly, this would effect her mobility and bladder/bowel capabilities. She also had hydrocephalus which is an excess build up of fluid on her brain. Scared, sad and mainly shocked we immediately started praying.
Matthew and Rebekah spent the next half of the pregnancy back and forth to UC Davis Hospital in Sacramento where they met with specialists and had numerous tests run on Claire to get more information on her condition.
No one could give us an exact picture of what life would look like for baby, so we trusted in the Lord and His promises for baby Claire.
Unexpectedly, on November 29th at 12:50am Claire Eliana Vlassis was born 5 weeks ahead of schedule. Within a few hours after the emergency c-section she was on an airplane headed to the UC Davis Hospital NICU. The next day she would undergo surgery to repair the wound on her back. Five days later she underwent brain surgery to have a medical device implanted in her head.
The road to Claire's recovery will continue for the next couple years. She will undergo serial casting to correct and straighten her legs and club feet. This will be continued with physical therapy and years of follow-up appointments with neurologists, orthopedists, urologists and physical therapists.
But if there is anything we've learned, it's that God never fails.
At this time we are hoping to raise 15K towards medical and living expenses for Claire and her family as they wait in Sacramento for our baby girl to heal up and gain enough strength to come home. Thank you for your continued prayers, encouragement and support!
