A Bit of History

I met Julie more than 35 years ago.  She was a paraprofessional in my reading class during my first year in high school. Her main job was to provide reading support for new comers and freshman students.  I was just a teenager when I met her and as a typical teenager, I carried with me a huge bag of issues.  Thanks to her support, advice, and understanding many students (including me) were able to cope with the challenges of this very difficult part of our lives. Under her guidance and mentoring, many of us were able to finish high school and became professionals.  Without a doubt, Julie was the living representation of the generosity and good nature of this country and of its people.

The Situation

In June 2018, Julie was diagnosed with stage 3 Malignant Mixed Mullerian Cancer. This is a very rare and aggressive type of cancer that has not been researched and therefore,   there is not a specific medication to treat it.  Julie is a retired paraprofessional and her only source of income is her retirement pension which is barely enough to cover her bare necessities. Since she started treatment, Julie has had to rely on the generosity of neighbors and friends to pay for basic expenses such as rent, food, and bills. Julie needs urgent help to have a fighting chance.  She has very expensive medical bills and she is undergoing an intense regime of chemo, radiation, and antibiotics. In addition to medical expenses, Julie requires a person who can assist her with simple tasks such as eating, cleaning herself, and just being able to move around the house due to the excruciating pain she has to endure after chemo and radiation sessions.  Julie is a fighter.  She is a very optimistic person with a strong will to live.  However, the emotional shock of her diagnosis and so many uncertainties are exacerbated by the financial stress that she currently undergoing. Your generosity is of utmost urgency.  No donation is too small and any amount will be greatly appreciated.
