As the founder of this wonderful facility that has only been open seven months now, we are shocked and lost, as we are slipping through the cracks of many of the government funding for businesses. Being vulnerable and asking for help is extremely difficult for us. We are putting our egos aside and doing all that we possibly can. We are grateful we are able to keep our doors open as an essential business, but sales are way down. Our greatest challenge is how we can cover our overhead costs such as rent and wages. #SmallBizRelief #SmallBusinessRelief
The purpose of this fundraising is simply to survive and continue to serve our communities.
Covid 19 is leaving us feeling concerned for not only our business, but also the community of food-insecure residents of our city. Members of our team have expressed a deep desire to continue to bake bread with the goal of getting it in the hands of people in need. We have talked with the Alex and the drop-In Centre and have found a way at providing bread to people housed in shelters.
Here’s where we want to help – we would like to bake bread to send it to each person living in those shelters. We want to commit to baking bread over the next few weeks to distribute at the shelters. This money will cover the labour cost of making that bread and go towards helping us pay our fixed costs (rent & wages). We think it's is super important to help get food into the hands of people whose income and circumstances didn't allow for them to stockpile goods. If we reach our goal, we will continue to bake bread for the local shelters.
In the event that we are unable to bake due to illness, we will happily donate any money raised to the Alex.
While $2000/week only represents a small proportion of our typical revenues, if we manage to fund raise that amount for 3 consecutive weeks, we will be able to cover our rent for April without incurring debt. This would help us immensely.
