CFB Murph Challenge Fundraiser

Donation protected
We are very excited to announce that this Memorial Day, we are teaming up with CrossFit Farmingdale and hosting The 2nd Annual Murph Challenge Challenge & Fundraiser at CrossFit Bastion! We would like to extend the invite to all local boxes and the entire community, whether participating in the WOD, or simply joining us to support a great cause.

This is going to be an incredibly special day here, as Daniel Murphy, Lt. Murphy's father is going to be joining us as the guest speaker. He will talk about his son and the mission of the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. I know that this is going to bring an incredible sense of meaning to "Murph" for each and every one of us participating on this day.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, The Murph Challenge is an extreme "Hero" WOD created by the members of the CrossFit community in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy, a native of Patchogue, NY and Navy SEAL who was killed in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005 during Operation Red Wings. His life story has been the subject of two books: Seal of Honor, and Heart of a Lion, as well as two movies: Murph: The Protector, and Lone Survivor.

The WOD:

"Murph"

For time:
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run

*Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you've got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it.

**This was Lt. Murphy's favorite workout, which he called "Body Armor". CrossFit renamed the workout "Murph" in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.

The Lt. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation awards 9 scholarships each year: two are awarded to graduates of Michael's High School, Patchogue-Medford High School, one through the Suffolk Federal Credit Union where Daniel is a Board Member, one to an attendee at Michael's college alma mater Penn State, one is also awarded to a crew member of the USS MICHAEL MURPHY DDG112 and another scholarship is awarded through the Military Order of the Purple Heart to a Combat Wounded Veteran. The Final two are awarded to a cadet of the LT Michael Murphy US Naval Sea Cadet Corps based in Sayville, NY and to a Gold Star Child through the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

All funds raised from corporate sponsorship and registration fees will be donated to the foundation.
