Brittany Riva
Brittany
Riva from Framingham is an amazing young woman.
Brittany was a student of Framingham High School, class of 2010 where
she served as her class president for all four years. Brittany's younger sister Ashley was born
with CHARGE syndrome resulting in vision problems and deafness. Watching a sibling struggle communicating
with the outside world prompted Brittany to enroll at Northeastern University
where she is hoping to become a Sign Language interpreter.
Britt
went to celebrate her birthday with friends in Florida. On the day of her 21st birthday,
March 3, 2013 she went to the hotel gym for a quick workout before breakfast
and collapsed. Brittany had an
undetected heart condition requiring paramedics to use a defibrillator, and she has spent nearly a
week in a coma on life support. On March
9, 2013 she opened her eyes for the first time since her horrible ordeal but
she still has a long road of recovery ahead of her. Her Father, Chris, soon to be Step-Mom,
Stephanie, her Mom, Tracey and Grandmother, Heather, flew to Florida as soon as
they learned of her sickness. A fund has
been set up at gofundme.com to assist with her parents out of pocket expenses
so they can continue to be with their daughter during this crucial time.
Any
funds from fundraising not used will be donated to Dr. P. Philips Hospital in
Orlando, Florida.
