Virginia Lapsley Medical Transport

As some of you may know, my grandmother, Virginia Lapsley, is very sick. She recently had an acute flare of her systemic sclerosis, which is an autoimmune disease that she has been suffering with her entire adult life. The flare of this disease has caused her lungs to become hardened and scarred, which has caused stress on her heart. On December 8th, 2018, she was admitted to Grand Strand Hospital in Myrtle Beach, SC for acute respiratory distress and heart failure. Her heart is causing fluid build-up, leading to pulmonary edema, which is further worsening her lungs. She has since been hospitalized, bouncing between the ICU and ICU step down units, as she has not been very stable. 

At this point, the doctors are doing everything they can to keep her comfortable. The scarring in her lungs is irreversible. She seemed to be improving; however, this morning the oxygen levels in her blood have dropped very low and she had to be placed on BiPAP, as it is the only thing strong enough to help her breathe. 

Grandma has decided that she would like to come home to Pittsburgh, PA, where the majority of her family and friends are.  She is tired and scared, and would like to be home.

We cannot safely transport her without proper medical transport, and her insurance will not cover the expenses, which will be $8,000 up front before she can even be transported. This will have to be out of pocket for our family.
