My Top Surgery Support

I am very excited to announce that I am getting top surgery on February 28, 2014. Though my surgery is funded through Alberta Health Care, taking time off work and other related expenses are not. I'm not in a financial position to take 2 to 3 weeks unpaid leave plus the cost of prescription and/or homoeopathic pre and post surgery medication - due to high cost of hormones, living, and not having any financial support. Getting out of an abusive relationship a couple years ago left me with debt I am still struggling to pay off, and I don't want to go deeper in debt from taking time off. I looked into Medical EI, and you can't go on it until 2 weeks after your surgery/medical issue - making it fairly useless in this situation. *See below for a cost breakdown budget.
There is no pressure to give, and I appreciate any support that I get through this "Go Fund Me" campaign. I am also very grateful to my recovery team who will be caring for me post surgery, and friends who have supported me and continue to support me through this process. I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for you. I am sending you so much love. I spend my work life, and a good portion of my home life supporting others, and doing social and environmental justice work, and I think it's really amazing that communities can come together to support each other in this way.

About 4 years ago I wrote a zine called "Sexual Anatomy" and it goes into detail about the sexual anatomy of people who are assigned female at birth (AFAB). I am in the process of re-writing and editing this zine to talk about AFAB anatomy in ways that are inclusive to AFAB trans folk. This will include language and ways of relating to the body that I hadn't figured out at that time. I think this is a worthwhile endeavour - to make my writing more trans inclusive as I continue on my transition.

-$80 Healing: Choose this level and get a hand drawn portrait in pencil or marker OR I will tune up your bicycle. I have many years of art experience and University, and was a bicycle mechanic for 3 years full time.

$200: 2 nights in a hotel in Red Deer for my support people while I am in surgery
$110: Food Budget for support people for 3 days around surgery date
$70: Gas money to Red Deer and back
$220: Pre and Post surgery medication (homoeopathic and otherwise)
*People can expect to get their thank you packages within 2 - 6 months of donating.
