Surgery update -Love for Barrett, Abby, Adam

Update November 2023
Over the past 2 years Barrett has been absolutely amazing, undergoing 20 months of brutal Chemotherapy and 28 rounds of Proton radiation at the mayo clinic. Treatment ended in Nov 2022, but cancer never really ends. Barrett has had several side effects from his treatment and now one of them is causing him to have to have a major surgery. Barrett has a broken femur on where one of the tumors was, his bones were weakened from radiation and in the course of doing regular little boy things, he fractured it. After nearly a year and many different opinions he is having surgery at Gillette on December 5th. They will be re breaking his bone and setting it where it needs to be to heal correctly. His recovery will be 8 weeks off of his feet and this may mean a body cast.
While we have been more fortunate than most this is another challenge for our family in many ways. Adam will be taking a 2-3 month unpaid leave to care for him, keeping him off his feet will be more than a full time job! Anything to help us get through this time would be appreciated and we are so grateful.

In early March 2021, a small lump was found in Barrett's right cheek. After multiple doctor visits, it was discovered that he has a malignant tumor and an aggressive form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. Though Barrett and his family will have a long road ahead of them of a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, and potentially surgery, they have all faced this with incredible determination and strength. Barrett has completed a week of intensive inpatient chemo and his zest for digging and playing has not changed. Abby and Adam are adjusting to a schedule of doctor appointments, treatments, and learning medical terminology they had never hoped to know. Despite the overwhelming road ahead, they are confident in their medical team, have appreciated their care thus far at the University of Minnesota -- Masonic Children's Hospital, and are grateful to live 12 minutes away.

However, due to this significant life change, they have determined it best for Abby to take a leave of absence from the Make-A-Wish foundation. The immediate and thoughtful help and support has been amazing and it is clear the Webster and Gregory families are surrounded by love and support. Many have asked how Abby and Adam can be continually supported, and this GoFundMe will assist them to fund household and medical expenses related to Barrett's care. Hopefully, this and the other avenues of help will ease their burden so they can focus on keeping Barrett happy and with a shovel as much as possible! We appreciate you all and keeping Barrett, Abby, Adam, and their families in your hopeful hearts.
