Rick's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Earlier this year (in 2018), my father Rick Bollinger was admitted into the hospital for what we thought was atrial fibrillation (rapid heart beat)--something that can be fixed with a simple procedure--however, what they found was a shock to us all.

During his two-week long hospital stay, they found a cancerous mass impressing on the left chamber of his heart. This mass, although unsure of where it originated from, grew to the size of a walnut and was the cause of his afib symptoms. They decided to start radiation to attempt to shrink the mass, but stopped the treatment because they found that the cancer had spread to his liver, lungs, and bones. Currently, dad is receiving chemo-therapy for the cancer. Although he's in Stage 4, we're going to try every possible treatment and option there is to keep him with us. My father is someone that we--that I--cannot live without. I could write pages about why my father is one of the most loved, respected, and upstanding men in our family and community, but this page is more for my mother and the burden she will have to carry now that my dad is sick and can no longer work.

As you may know, health insurance at this time is a nightmare for most low and middle-income American families--especially families who are self-employed. Both of my parents have been self-employed their entire lives. They've worked hard and have always provided for me and my brother, even as far as putting us through college (something I have always deeply appreciated). But from being in-and-out of the hospital for over two months, the chemo treatments,  and the hospital check-ups and visits, medical bills (even with insurance) are astronomical and climbing. Although my mother continues to work as a hair-stylist, she is having to cut back her hours to take care of my dad. Even without cutting back, she cannot afford the medical bills and treatment expenses on her own. We are asking for donations to help cover the outstanding medical bills at this time. We are humbled by the love, positive thoughts, and prayers my father has received so far. For my mother (Colleen), we ask and appreciate any help you can give towards the financial burden she is going through at this time. Thank you and God Bless
