Bob's broken foot fund

Hello,

My name is Bob. This is my long-time girlfriend Carley, and our kitten Jameson.

Three and a half months ago we were at a crossroads; we had been wanting to move and experience different places and people, we had some money in the bank, we're young, and we were in the happiest relationship of either of our lives. We both had good jobs, I had been pursuing a fairly successful field of passion myself as an audio engineer, and she had a job helping people file medical claims. We knew we wanted a change though, at least while we had the chance.

We had a friend who lived in Vietnam, he told us there was a big push and desire for the Vietnamese to learn English, and given the opportunity we jumped. We packed up everything we could carry, loaded up our little kitten, and moved our lives halfway around the world!

It's been one of the best decisions we've ever made, bringing us closer together  and giving us a satisfaction in helping others that we'd never known before. We both began teaching English to children and adults all over Ho Chi Minh City. We love it, the children, the people, the culture, the challenge, all of it.

Carley loves to sing and is learning how to play guitar, and I am an avid guitar lover. She got to play her very first show here in Vietnam with myself as accompaniment. It was one of the most wonderful memories we've ever shared.

I love teaching, I've never had a more satisfying experience in my life, I've attached a video of some of my students dancing to Christmas tunes, and a photo of me dressed as Santa surprising some classes with candy and Christmas stories.

Unfortunately, right around Christmas time some bad luck struck us, and Carley fell ill with dengue fever. While not terribly dangerous by itself it caused an infection in her face which was severe and she was admitted to the hospital for several days under close supervision and care. This drained what funds we had left, even having to borrow money to afford the rest of her care. She has recovered well however, and we are both very happy about it.

But, our string of luck did not last long as by the second day of the new year I have sustained an injury and require medical care that we very much cannot afford.

I left class to pick up Carley as she was celebrating her health by going for a swim. I was cut off and ran into by another motorist and wrecked my bike, severely damaging my foot. I have broke numerous bones and had several X-rays and opinions on what the doctors have called a "critical breakage". I have been informed that without treatment I will not be able to bear weight on the foot indefinitely and I very much enjoy walking and traveling. I require surgery as soon as I am able otherwise these are my consequences

It is lucky that healthcare is fairly cheap in Vietnam and all the care required is likely to only cost us around 2000$ with what little money we have left.

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am not a man to ask for help, but am always willing to give what I can to others. If there was ever a time we needed to depend on the graces of others, and see if trying to live your life as a good person can truly benefit others, I now turn to you friends.

It hurts my pride to ask for donations like this, but I am in a time of need. Any little bit helps, it isn't an unreasonable goal, and I have great people in my life. If you've ever met me and I've made any kind of impact or positive thought in your life then I have done what I desire, and I ask for your help now. If you've never met me, know that I try to live my life as a positive, and your help will only further increase my passion to do so. I try to be the change I want to see in the world, and your help will most assuredly be passed on to others.

We have run out of our options, we must now depend on others, we are both very humble people and we live as such. We have very little debt, no credit cards, only the money we saved and brought and are currently making. This surgery will take me three months to recover from and I must begin teaching again as soon as possible. We have already reduced our diet to mostly eggs and rice to save money, and have rent paid only until the end of this month. Things are difficult now but they can become much much worse, and I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

Please pass this along, donate if you can and know that it is with a grateful heart I will accept and continue to live and be a good person in a strange, tough world.

Thank you all,

Bob and Carley
