Creating and Supporting This Fund Is Very Personal To Me.
Those of you who know me were as shocked as I was when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2013. I was stunned when my oncologist explained that I had 4 tumours in my right breast and that I had a very aggressive form of breast cancer. She bluntly told me that without treatment I wouldn't be around in 2 years.
I have had the most amazing support from around the globe for which I am so thankful, and if you have been following me you know that my treatment has gone very well.
What I learned during my own journey is that not all women, who have had a mastectomy, are able to finance reconstructive surgery and/or symmetrical surgery on their non-cancerous breast.
Going through breast cancer robs women of everything that is deemed female and feminine in today's society. You lose your hair, your eyebrows, your eyelashes and sometimes your finger and/or toenails. Living in an image obsessed world that we do, this can have a profound negative impact on a woman's self esteem.
Most if not almost all charities fund awareness, prevention, research and screening programs and so my vision is to provide the means to help women reclaim their femininty that was robbed from them, without their permission.
