Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund - Big Easy to Big Apple
Dear Friends, Family, and fellow New
Orleanians,
There is a rich tradition in
Louisiana, a part of the culture which makes it uniquely
"Louisianian" - the warm generosity of its people. We truly
care about our community and about others.
We do not have to look too far back
in our own history to know what it is like to be in a moment of need.
We know that celebrating the
Superbowl Victory of 2009 just would not have been the same without living
through the tribulations of 2005. It is that love that embraces visitors from
all over the earth to visit our city, feel the warmth, not want to leave,
return home with stories upon stories of a truly great place, and have an
attraction like metal to magnet to return again and again. It is for that
reason that myself and my friend Matt moved to this great city.
With that in mind, I can not
stop thinking of the enormous sense of community and desire to come
to the aid of a bewildered New York City after the attacks of 9/11 when
you donated a fire engine - the Spirit of Louisiana - along with much sympathy
and emotion. It was a shining example of the compassion of New Orleans;
we couldn't fix what had happened, but we could give them a hand to get back up
on their feet.
Then Katrina hit in 2005, just 4
short years later. The firefighters of New York City did not forget
your generosity - as people rarely do - and while in this states
saddest moments, the Spirit of Louisiana, 14 vehicles, and 300 support
members from FDNY drove straight through from New York to New Orleans and were
stationed at Holy Cross College to assist in the aftermath.
In the spirit of Louisiana, in all
that is true and good in us, I call on that proud tradition of being there
in the time of dire need for our friends in New York, as they have been for us. If you are from Louisiana, or believe in the spirit of
Louisiana, and if you are a New Yorker who believes in the resolve of the city,
please consider giving to this cause.
On Nov. 14th, the Big Easy to Big Apple Hurricane Relief Caravan will be leaving New Orleans. It will make a rendevouz with our friend Seth (A Native of La.) and make its way to the affected areas in NYC.
