Beyond the INK - Join the INK Movement!

Everyone gets tattooed; doctors, lawyers, rock stars and athletes, professionals and soccer moms, young and old, and everyone in between.

I got my first tattoo when I was 19 and never planned on getting more; 6 months later I got my second tattoo and knew I was hooked. It wasn't long before I was working part time at the tattoo shop. That was when I really started learning about tattoos and people who get them.

I learned that people price shop their tattoos. They think the $40 tattoo from the guy down the street is going to be just as good as one from a serious artist. They don't know what a portfolio is or why they should look at one. I learned that the average person just doesn't know what to do to get a great tattoo.

It was very frustrating to me but I realized there was nothing out there that simply said "˜This is the basic information you need to know in order to get a well done, clean, safe tattoo', and "˜this is why you should care'.

There had never been someone who stood up publicly and told people that there IS a difference between a "˜good' and "˜bad' tattoo and this is how you get a good one. I decided to be that person and have spent the last three years of my life trying to correct all the mis-information out there, and to give the average person a reliable source of unbiased information.

I don't want to recommend a tattoo artist for you, I want to teach you what you need to know to make your own informed decision about who your tattoo artist is, what you decide to get, and where you decide to place it on your body.

I spent a year and a half travelling to conventions and asking artists from all over the world what advice they had for someone wanting to get tattooed. And no matter where I went, or who I talked to, or where they were from, they all told me the same things. I broke all the answers down into what turned out to be 9 different categories and wrote a paragraph about each category that is so simple that anyone can understand them.

These 9 points, or "˜Tattoo Tips', are the basis for everything my organization, Beyond the INK, teaches.

Last year I travelled all over North America, speaking at tattoo studios and tattoo conventions. I developed a seminar that is about 45 minutes long, and it covers everything someone needs to know, or consider before they get tattooed. I am humbled by the positive response it has received within the tattoo community and beyond.

Now, I am ready to take Beyond the INK to the next level.
I am asking for your help to raise $50,000. With that I plan on doing three things.

First I want to create an all inclusive, ever evolving tattoo community website that answers all the basic frequently asked questions about tattoos. Finally, no more mystery for the average person. One site with all the information people need to get good tattoos because everyone out there deserves to get great tattoos.

Second, I want to film my seminar and make it available to the public. We plan on doing video clips for the website and Youtube, a full length DVD and getting it distributed on Hulu, Netflix etc. so people can get the information they need for free.

I've never filmed my seminar because I never wanted to put out a product that wasn't high quality. This video will be shot and edited by professionals at several conventions across the country and include interviews with artists. The DVD and the videos will all have high production value so people will want to watch them and learn the information.

Third, I want to provide a variety of print materials that can be handed out at my seminars, sent to tattoo shops, given out at colleges and other organizations. These printed materials will be available all over the country all the time and help clients make better choices when they visit an artist.

In 3 years I have traveled more than 50,000 miles, and spoke to tens of thousands of people, on the little bit of money I was able to scrounge up. I know that if I can make it as far as I have with this in the last 3 years, that if everyone who has told me they support it donates $5.00 I would have more than enough money to make Beyond the INK into a brand that the entire world could support and learn from.

This has never been and never will be just my fight. Whether you are a tattoo artist who is tired of trying to teach the basics to your clients, or someone who has no tattoos and doesn't even know where to start, we all know the industry will be better off with better educated clients.

You can all make a difference. There are thank you gifts for different contributions, but this will only works if we hit our goal in this 30 days. So whether you have $5 or $500, every contribution helps. Can you imagine, a world where beautiful tattoos roaming the streets is more common than poorly done tattoos? You can help us make that possible. You can Join the INK Movement, and help us make the world a more beautiful place, one educated client at a time.
