My name is Nancy, Bentley’s mama.

Our beloved Bentley has been recovering from an eye injury and for the past three months we’ve been dealing with what we thought was a reaction to a steroid Bentley was prescribed. The end of February we did full panel bloodwork, which came back normal and were waiting to do a follow-up appointment a month later. On March 25, Bentley woke us up at 3am screaming in pain and was no longer able to get up and walk. We rushed him into the emergency and after running intensive test, according to the X-ray, they believed he had osteomyelitis, also known as a bone infection, which is a rare condition when the bone or bone marrow becomes inflamed or infected.

We transferred him to a 24 hour’s facility to be treated around the clock. He needs to do a spinal tap, mri, and blood cultures to find the specific bacteria that is eating away at his bones to treat it.

This morning on March 26th, we spoke to neuro and they believe he has discospondylitis which is an inflammatory disease that affects the intervertebral discs, vertebral bodies, and adjacent endplates of dogs. It can be caused by a bacterial or fungal infection.

Bentley is only 2 years old and is our little pack leader. His siblings Zoey and Blue and his Momma Bella miss Bentley so much! In our household of 4 shepherds he has always been our most athletic and protective pup. Bentley is hands down a huge mama’s boy and is always by my side. We are so heart broken and praying for miracles.
