Beautifully Bald For My Momma :)

So as most of you who will read this know, my mom Debbie Milgate-Moyer has been diagnosed with the BIG, BAD "C" word. After several months of testing, bruising and tired frustration a final diagnosis was finally given and it was equivalent to a shot heard around the world. I was dumb-founded. For a woman who has dedicated her life to helping others, fundraising over 1/2 a million dollars for the childrens hospital, fighting for justice in her brothers murder and being utterly and completely selfess, to me and to most, this news came as a complete shock. So now, it's time we give a little back to her.

My mom has been diagnosed with CMML (Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia). It is an advanced form of MDS. It is a condition that affects the bone marrow and it's ability to produce healthy blood cells. My mom's body currently has issues with creating healthy red blood cells so she experiences severe anemia, bruising, extreme levels of fatigue and shortness of breath, and is being hospitalized for her treatment.

My mother was always healthy and when she was "sick" she never stopped moving, and when I or my sisters were sick she was always there, always knew what to do and always taking care of us, nothing brought that woman down, so to see her sick and tired is something very new for me. The second I found out my mom had been diagnosed I swore I would do everything in my power to help no matter how far I was. And when she was told she would be going through chemo, followed up by a bone marrow transplant I found a way that I could help. My mom's chemo has forced her to lose her hair, for any female this is anything but easy. A woman's hair is part of their femininity and it gives a certain kind of security, so I vowed I wouldn't let my mom go through this alone, and what a FUN way to raise money for her!

So as of December 7th I will be joinging my mom in being BEAUTIFULLY BALD!

I will be taking bids on all of these beautiful curly RED strands of hair and strand for strand, dollar for dollar I will raise money for my moms treatment.

Mom's doctor is preparing her for a bone marrow transplant. And her brother is her perfect match! She is a patient of Dr. Michael Becker from Strong Hospital (University of Rochester). And yes that is the same hospital that my mom does all the fund raising for - only her funds go to the Children's portion of the hospital.

While my mom faces some intense chemotherapy we are very optimistic about her fight, and lets face it she's a Moyer she's trained to WIN! She is a strong person and will fight this with all she has. So where does all of this leave us?

My parents face many months of intense treatment with high medical bills that have only just begun to come in. I'm not only shaving my head to join my mom in her bald beauty, I'm doing this to raise as much money as possible to aid in payment for her treatment. My mom has spent her life serving the community for so many years in raising money for a number of charities, and has turned her grief from loss into a positive, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years. It's time to help my parents for once as they fight my mom's battle against cancer.

I'm looking forward to being bald with my mom, like mother like daughter they say and we can show the world how beautiful bald truly is together as a team. :)

So in conclusion, EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS GUYS AND GIRLS! My goal is to raise at least $5000.00 for my moms treatment! LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN!
