Our mother, Sharon Sylvester Lynady, was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease in 2011, impacting both of her kidneys. She has been living with this disease for the past six years and is currently in stage 5 renal failure. We do not know how much longer she can go on in her current state. She has done everything medically possible to keep on surviving but is in desperate need of a kidney transplant.
Her diagnosis has devastated our family and her friends and robbed her of the parts of her life that she loves the most. She was forced to leave her career as a hairstylist due to the extreme exhaustion related to her condition. She misses her cliental and service to the public. She can no longer host family dinners and parties for her three grandchildren, entertain her friends or attend many important family functions.
She is hoping that a brave and courageous person will step up to give her the gift of life as a living donor or that she will make it to the top of donor list to receive her life saving transplant. The surgery will take place at Lehigh Valley Medical Center as soon as possible and we are hoping we can help her be financially prepared to move forward as soon as she gets that call!
The cost of her future transplant and future treatments are on going. Many costs related to the transplant itself are covered by insurance but there is a very large amount that is not. Our parents must be prepared financially to pay at minimum:
*multiple insurance copays for our mother’s surgery and living donor’s surgery
*the cost to offset potential financial losses for a living donor
*the full cost of anti-rejection medications for the remainder of her life
*travel and lodging related to her surgery and her living donor’s recovery away from home
If her donations exceed her costs, we will gratefully donate any remaining funds to the National Kidney Foundation to further their research.
