A forever home for "Bat Bill"

Donation protected

Our son, Billy, aka Bat Bill was near fatally injured in a motor vehicle accident on 2/8/03.  He spent 28 days in a coma from a head injury.  In addition to the brain injury,  he had numerous internal injuries.  Severe damage to his bladder, liver, spleen, and a broken and displaced sacrum/pelvis, broken orbitl bone and palate, punctured and collapsed lung. We were told IF he survived, he would be a vegetable and would never walk. When he emerged from his coma, it was apparent he would not be a vegetable. We took him to Shepherds Center in Atlanta, Ga.  We spent a total of 6 months in Atlanta for brain injury rehabilitation, with a special emphasis neuro behavior. The year of 2003 was the hardest year of our lives, but unfortunately, with brain injury, a person is never the "same". While  billy has made incredible strides in his recovery, he has many, many defecits, and struggles on a daily basis. Billy is permanently disabled, and unless things radically change, will receive approximately $425/month to live on from social security disability income for the rest of his life!  We have funded him in apartments on and off, but frankly, we cannot support two households. We have spent the last 11 years struggling to find resources for him. Alabama provides benefits for acquired brain injury through state funded MR(mental retardation) if the survivor was under 18 at the time of their injury. We were denied as Billy was 18 at the time of the accident.  We also were denied benefits from state funded MI(mental illness) because although Billy definitely has significant issues now including depression, he did NOT have a mental illness diagnosis prior to his injury!!
I guess I've basically given up.  I was even told by one of our state legislators in Montgomery to move to another state!

What does one do when there is nowhere to turn? A friend suggested I give go fund me a try....so here I am.
What is our goal?  We would very much like to find a small house, condo or townhouse to purchase for Billy so that we will never have to worry about him having a place to live.  If we can raise enough funds to purchase a property for him, his SSDI can pay for utilities and food. Billy very much desires to be "independent", but simply is unable to provide for himself in a work environment due to his many deficits.

Will you help us find Bat Bill his BAT CAVE?
