Dear Franciscans, North Pointers, Dominicans, Manorites, the Wadi Kabir Family, Loving Family Members and Friends,

My father and mother dedicated their lives to the education of children at St Francis' College, Lucknow.

As his youngest son, I have tried to walk in his footsteps; his shoes are too large to fill.

I know I will never be the legend he has become, and I am humbled to note that he is still remembered fondly by staff and students of SFC.

I have been teaching for over twenty-five years. Starting my career at St Joseph's Darjeeling and then St Dominic Savio College, Lucknow.

Unhappy with city life, I moved back to the hills and worked at St George's Mussoorie. I taught at the Indian School Al Waki Al Kabir under the guidance of Mr Leo Lobo (Former Principal at St Francis' College).

Finally,  I migrated to Australia and after finding my feet I joined teaching once again-braving the perils of being an English teacher in a foreign land!

I am now the Head of Academic Standards at a small community school in Mt Druitt, Sydney. The college provides the best education that it can to a school community comprising students who have fled persecution in their home countries.

These students are from Egypt, Ethiopia, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, and Lebanon...

They are like scores of Indian students I have taught- hardworking and talented..just a little disadvantaged because English is not their first language and some of them have missed several years of regular schooling.

Through the Basil and Evelyn Joseph Academic Achievement Fund,  I would like to achieve the following goals:

1) Set up the Basil and Evelyn Joseph Annual Academic Award to recognise Academic Achievement at the end of the year for students from Years 7-12. A cash award of :

$100 for the highest academic achievement in Years 7-8

$200 for the highest academic achievement in Years 9-10

$300 for the highest academic achievement in Years 11-12

2) Buy textbooks and other educational supplies for students who cannot afford to so. (as per the booklist)

3) Buy School Uniforms for students who come to school dressed poorly because of financial constraints. (approximately $200-250)

4) Pay for educational support in the form of private tuition to help raise the student's basic levels of literacy and numeracy.

5) Pay for some part of the school fees across several students whose parents are unable to do so for several reasons.

All donors will have access to a google spreadsheet that will detail how the fund has been used and provide a balance sheet that will be updated twice a year.

I thank you for any contribution you can make-small or big ..as the cliche goes....little drops of water make the mighty ocean.

I hope to keep my parents legacy alive and help the most vulnerable in my school community.

Thank you and may God bless each one of you with success in all your endeavours.
