An excited group of young people from Salisbury and neighbouring north eastern suburbs has been selected to make an ‘Adventurous Journey’ as part of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
The teenagers are all currently enrolled in Baptist Care SA’s Flexible Learning Options Program which provides alternate pathways to work towards their SACE.
After the shattering cancellation of their trip to make the Kokoda Trek due to the civil unrest in Papua New Guinea, we have been in ongoing discussions with the Department of Education & Child Development and Duke of Edinburgh Award to find a suitable alternative.
We are thrilled to be able to advise that the young people taking part in this expedition are now going to Tasmania to spend seven days walking The Overland Track in the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.
During the delay the young people have remained focused and been attending weekly engagement activities and fitness programs and participating in fundraising with events such as BBQs, garage sales and hikes.
All of the young people involved have grown personally through this experience and we are looking forward to hearing their stories upon their return.
Your support directly contributs to equipment, travel expenses, food, accommodation, tour guide and access to the track.
